KIAI 5K Week! 4-29 to 5-5

Here we are at the week of the 4th annual KIAI 5K, which supports a cause near and dear to my heart.  KIAI (Karate Instruction Assistance Initiative) provides martial arts scholarships to deserving students who would otherwise not be able to afford the cost of tuition.  My opinion is this:  if you have a good kid who wants to try something positive, money should never be a roadblock.  There's always a way, and this is one of those ways.

As requested, here's a link to their website:

http://www.kiaikaratescholarships.org/

My friend and race director Julie C. is a martial arts student and runner, in a family of fast local runners, and this race rocks...I love supporting this one.

Monday, 4-29 - 0 Miles - Planned zero after this past weekend's races, and had too many things on the plate anyway...

Tuesday, 4-30 - 4.5 Miles (Trail) - Chatfield Trail, Killingworth, CT.  Checking off yet another CFPA Blue-Blazed trail.  Having had no takers for an Arcadia run this morning, I decided to head west again, and check out another set of trails maintained by the CT Forest & Park Association.  My plan was to do the whole out-and-back, but my time was short so I split what I had down the midde.

Great trails, and some good hills, but what really got my attention were the scrambles up and down some of the very steep and rocky sections.  There were also some caves and overhangs that the trail went through or under, and one small keyhole exit, known as the "Fat Man Squeeze," out one of them:

Good, rocky trails

Note the blaze.  Trail goes through...

...and comes out here

Again, see the blaze???  Killer overhang, too...

The "Fat Man Squeeze"

Got off trail quite a few times, as it would abruptly turn and go straight down the rocks, or straight up, and the turns could have been noted a bit better, but overall this is a great trail.  It's also directly across the street from the Chatfield Hollow State Park, which has its own network of blazed trails...definitely worth a return trip!

Wednesday, 5-1 - 3 Miles (Trails) - Yawgoog Yellow/White trails, Hopkinton, RI.  Early dismissal for the kids today meant karate class, scrambling around wrapping up some errands around town, and a small window of opportunity for a quick run in the woods...warm day, felt good out there!

Thursday, 5-2 - 3.75 Miles (Trails) - Duval trails after solo surf session at Matunuck.  Never run these trails before, so I kept stopping at the signs to figure out where I was.  Cool, rolling single-track, and I was lucky enough to be able to ditch the shirt and run in just shorts and shoes.  Felt great, warm weather and nice shady trails and it was on my way back from a short surf session.  Great day...

Friday, 5-3 - 5+ Miles (Trails) - Grills Preserve trails (Ashaway and Bradford sides) with Muddy.  After spending too much time this morning painting blazes on the Narragansett trail, I had no time left for a run, so plans got shelved until late afternoon.  I texted Muddy on the outside chance he hadn't run today (he hadn't), and we met up at Grills.  During the first 3/4 mile, we speculated on whether the bridge had been dropped in yet, to connect the Ashaway/Bradford sides of the river, and effectively doubling the trails available at the preserve.  Coming around the last turn with fingers crossed, is that...silver???  Yes it is!!!  And it's open for business!

Shiny new bridge...

Muddy talking local knowledge with Land Trust dude...

So the Land Trust guy who was there said the bridge just went in yesterday, and offered to show us where to go, and  gave us the breakdown on what was open and what wasn't.  We spent the bulk of our time on this side of the river, obviously, exploring first some old service roads, and then the white diamond trail, which was awesome hilly single-track that totally changes the whole Grills experience...the climbs and views were outstanding, and the terrain was the total opposite of the Bradford side.  Big difference in vertical gain on the Ashaway side of the river.  So much potential here...like the Land Trust dude said right before he left, "This is just the beginning..."

Zero tomorrow, then KIAI!!!

Saturday, 5-4 - 0 Miles.

Sunday, 5-5 - 5 Miles (Road) - Short warmup, short cooldown, and the 4th Annual KIAI 5K road race.  10th place out of 160, 21:56 officially, new PR!!!  Felt pretty damn good, too.  Picked up Jim H. and headed down nice and early.  Perfect cool spring day, 50-ish degrees.  Did a short warmup run, then got ready to go.  Way Hedding saw me lined up in my usual middle-of-the-pack spot and smartly waved me up to the front, a place I'd never started from before.  Felt weird, but Way was right.  My goal when the gun went off was to maintain a good, steady pace, and run hard enough that I couldn't hold a conversation.  The course was reversed from previous years, which really screwed me up (doesn't take much!), but I knew that there'd be a small hill right before the end.  Sorry Beth, I think I told you the end of the race was downhill!  I was thinking I was top 20, but when the results got posted I was listed as #10, so I'm stoked.  Previous results:  25:04, 26:48, 25:25, so I shaved over 3 minutes off my best time on this course...who knows?  Maybe next year I can be top 5...

Rhode Island State Police "Foot Pursuit" 5K

One of my favorite races, for both the course (I love Narragansett) and the awesome cookout the state police put on afterward.  Really great race.  This year, after yesterday's disaster at the TARC race, I drove down to the race just to cheer on my WTAC brethren and maybe run a cooldown with them.  I pulled into the parking lot, and started to feel the adrenaline pump: race day activity, everyone decked out in their gear, bibs and race shirts...crap.  This isn't going to be fun at all...

So I don't look like a total idiot, I quickly change into my shorts, shoes and a pullover, and immediately run into FiveK, and he points me toward the rest of the crew.  After exchanging information about my meltdown at the TARC, the question comes up:  Are you here to run???  No, no, just here for support, guys...(insert nervous druggie twitching "must...run...race" here).  I chat with Jana while the guys go out for a warmup, then grab my swag and head back to the car.

My legs felt heavy, sore and stiff, as they should have, and my toe was sting-y, but I decided to try some jog/sprints in the parking lot anyway.  Not great, not horrible...

Run into Muddy, and he says "If you decide to run, awesome.  If you don't, still awesome."  Hmmm, I'd rather be awesome?  Race at 10.  It's 9:50-something.  I stay close to the truck, and finally decide SCREW IT.  I'm running no matter what.  Don't tell my wife, she forbade me from running this race after the TARC...I figure I'll use this as a recovery run, if anything...and I have a policy of never wearing a race shirt if I don't run the race, and the shirt's just too cool to not wear...

Throw the bib on and hit the lineup at 9:58?  Got some approval fistbumps from the crew, and ran into one of my old Sony dudes right before the race, who gave me some encouragements as well.

Took my place in the back half of the field and we're off!  I started out sluggish and cramped, and wishing I hadn't committed to doing it, and then something pretty cool happened:  my legs started getting looser, and while the toe was still painful, I focused on getting my rhythm down and cruising up the road.  As I felt better, I moved a bit faster (see attached, I negative-splitted the entire race) and had a great run...not a PR overall, but I checked my results for this race, and I beat my best time on this course by 30 seconds!  Came in at 23:39, 164th overall of 844 runners.  So glad that peer pressure has its positive effects, as I'd have been completely bummed if I hadn't run this.  I had other friends running other races in CT and Rhody (Beth crushed her 10 mile goal in Newport!!!  Awesome!), and I was stoked to see that there were thousands of people around our area getting their race on.  So cool.

Found out FiveK won!  Muddy came in third, Jeff 6th, Matthew crushed his PR?  And Mike B., fresh off surgery, posts a fantastic comeback time at 21:09???  Great to see a strong WTAC turnout, and we took the team title, which is sweet...several other WTAC'ers I ran into/ran with?  Kelsey S., David S. and John H., who I got to say hello to at mile 2 as I snuck up on him.

Great day.  Perfect weather, I ran, saw friends, had a great time.  Cooldown with the crew...

I plan on getting my speedwork together, and getting faster, now that the long race is out of the way...

TARC Spring Classic 50K trail race

DNF (Did Not Finish) - Not to be dramatic, but it's a first, and hopefully the last, time I ever post those letters next to anything...

Woke up at 4:30, gear already packed, had a quick coffee, shower and light breakfast and hit the road for the 1.5 hour drive to Weston, MA.  Gorgeous little village outside Boston, and the course was awesome.  Pretty flat, user friendly wide trail, and I was able to check in easily and get my bib and shirt.

Ran into Mike G., Jonny, Seth, Mark and Shira, and got mentally geared up.  Felt great!

So the race starts (10K loop run 5 times), and I'd written on my hand the words "Keep your Pace", to remind me that I wanted to stay at about a 10:00 mile average, getting me home in a 5:30-ish timeframe.  For the first half hour, Shira was about 50 yards ahead of me keeping the same pace, then I caught up to her and we chatted until the first loop ended.  I stopped to refill my bottle; she kept going and I never saw her again.  Second 10K loop?  About halfway through, my stomach started doing something funky, and I realized there'd be a pitstop after the loop was through.  I also proceeded to royally jam my toe on a rock in a swampy area right before the end of the loop, which hurt like Hell.

Loop done, pitstop made, I still wasn't quite right but set out for loop #3 anyway.  This would be where the wheels came off the bus...I was still making good time, but the stomach thing came back with a vengeance (Sidenote:  I have no idea what did it - I ate the most benign foods for two days leading up to the race, and can't figure it out), and I was now thinking I might have lost my toenail, and it hurt like an SOB.  In spite of everything, I finished loop three at just over three hours and was still doing OK timewise, and a guy who passed me right before the turnaround gave me some advice:  "If it's not your day, it's not your day, but at least start loop 4 and head up the trail.  If it still isn't looking good, then turn back and call it a day."

So that's what I did:  got to the start/finish, changed shoes and checked the toe (nail still there, but I must have bent it way back, kind of whitish), and talked myself into heading back out.  I got 3/4 of a mile down the trail and realized two things:  first, when I changed shoes I forgot to put the chip timer on the new pair, and I believe I'd have been DQ'd without it, and two: there was no way I was doing another 12 miles, so I did the walk of shame back to the start, grabbed the chip timer and turned it in.  Sucks.

On the other hand, I did get 20 trail miles in today, in perfect conditions, and realized I'm not always going to have an ideal race, but it was still fun.  I'm sore, showered and hanging out with the dog, having a beer.  Not sure about tomorrow's race in "Gansett, I'm registered but it depends on how I recover the rest of the day...either way, I'll be there, either to run or to cheer my WTAC crew on!

TARC 50K and Foot Pursuit 5K Week? What the Hell? Dummy?

So here we are at the TARC (Trail Animals Running Club) 50K week...I plan on giving the TARC race everything I have, but I love the Foot Pursuit race and had already signed up for TARC when they posted their date.  Can I do them back-to-back?  Well, shit, I suppose now that I've worked out several issues that came up at my first 50K (poor training, horrible shoe selection, not listening to Gazelle about that anti-chafing stuff), I can at least give myself a fighting chance to not blow up after mile 20...and I'll be on a loop course getting lapped (and most likely heckled to no end) by some of my WTAC crew, so that's cool too.  By the way, is it considered bad form to fill a CamelBak with beer?  Just kidding...

My difficulty walking the day after the Bimbler's race had a lot to do with chafing, not soreness, so I'm hopeful I can complete both.  I can't imagine anything other than showing up for the Foot Pursuit race and giving it a go...of course, all this is pure speculation, and the "crash-and-burn" factor at the TARC is always lurking in my psyche, waiting to pounce...

Monday, 4-22 - 3.5 Miles (Trails) - Beebe Pond Preserve, Noank, CT.  Post-karate class run. Happy Earth Day!!!  Nice, breezy day to check out another set of trails just outside Mystic.  Turns out, there's an adjoining Avalonia property that connects its trails, but I missed the connector.  Lots of unmarked spurs off the main trail, and pretty technical in the spots closest to the pond.  Cool spot!

View from the far side of the pond

Tuesday, 4-23 - 4.5 Miles (Trail/Dirt Road) - Nayantaquit Trail, Nehantic State Forest, Lyme CT.  Nayantaquit's Native American translation is "points of land on tidal stream", just a fun fact I'm throwing out there.  Seriously good climbs here in Eric B. territory - I scoped this trail out a couple of weeks ago, but hadn't had a chance to get over there.  Great elevation for a short distance, and a great workout.  Nice trails too - some good technical stuff, and I think the grade hit 20% at one point.  By my estimation, runs like this are to my benefit going into the TARC race, which on paper looks to be relatively flat?  We'll soon see!

Wednesday, 4-24 - 0 Miles - 1 hour karate, and assorted odds and ends at the casa...

Thursday, 4-25 - 2 hours surfing Conant Avenue.   Once the sun came out and the wind went light northwest, I was in the water.  Waist to chest high, clean and nobody out.  Nobody.  Take a wave, paddle back out to the lineup, and repeat.  Saved my legs today but my arms are jelly from all the paddling :)

Right before it really cleaned up

PM - WTAC Scholarship application review, Malted Barley...I'll have nightmares about the "rubric" for years, I'm sure...4 hours of reading, grading and judging our applicants' skills, and discussing my impending doom on Saturday...good times!

Friday, 4-26 - 0 Miles - CT Science Center field trip...well 0 miles officially, but that damn place was all stairs!  Three zeros in a row?  Yes.  Method to my madness.  We'll see if it pays off.  Either way, should be cool tomorrow, lots of WTAC presence at this race and the potential for epic conditions...just have to drag my ass outta bed early enough :)

Saturday, 4-27 - 20 Miles (Trail) - TARC Spring Classic 50K.  First official DNF ever, see separate post...

Sunday, 4-28 - 3.1 Miles (Road) - Rhode Island State Police Foot Pursuit 5K - Separate post coming shortly...

Atlantis and Last Chance TARC Workout, W/E 4-21 (And not Shirking!!!)

Monday, 4-15 - 2+ Miles (Road) - Short out/back run from the hotel.  It's wicked hot here, and the oppressive air is causing my body to reject any shot at distance while I'm here.  Good workout, I'm drenched after 2 miles and get to cool down in the ocean, but I'm also trying not to be stupid about overdoing it in a climate I'm not used to.

I'd like to offer this sidenote, as a runner, road racer and fan, and future Boston Marathoner:  I was waiting for my daughter to finish a ride at the waterpark in Atlantis, when I overheard a woman say something about a bomb, and a finish line...of course I knew exactly which finish line it was.  There's only one finish line of consequence on this day, and I was hoping she was misinformed.  Sadly, no.  I'd already heard from my friend Jeff and knew he was done with the race, so my hope was that it was something minor, which it wasn't.  Bad stuff.  I was totally floored, sad, angry, you name it, and started to feel guilty for being in such a beautiful place while such bad things had happened in New England...and what do you do?  I kept up, with limited internet/text/news during the day, and tried to wrap my head around it, which I didn't do very well.  I'll put pen to paper again about this at some point, but for now I'll say this:  I've never been more motivated to qualify for Boston.  It will happen.

Tuesday, 4-16 - 3.5 Miles (Road) - Zig-Zaggy resort loops at Atlantis...Hot!  The paths here are great, and easy to hit dead ends, but a fun run nonetheless.  I get to cool off in the ocean every morning, which is awesome...Crystal clear tropical water, and in spite of the "Jet ski boys" trying to rent me a personal watercraft at $70 for a half hour, it's pretty sweet...

Wednesday, 4-17 - 3+ Miles (Road/Path) - Run with distractions...I scoped out Atlantis before we left and found out that there's basically no surf here, but with a small chance of surf if a Northeast swell passes between Abaco and Eleuthera Islands, there can be rare, world-class surf here.  Guess what?  I wake up to the sound of crashing waves, and go out to the balcony of our room to see corduroy swell lines stacked to the horizon...I get my shoes on and hit the paths, and I'm immediately tempted to drop everything and find a surfboard, somewhere...but I got my run finished and spent the rest of the day frying myself to a level 8?

Thursday, 4-18 - 4-ish Miles (Road/Paths) - Last Atlantis day, surf eye candy and return to New England...and the wind went light offshore, the swell built, and now I'm looking at my dream wave:  small-medium, perfect, peeling and warm water waves with nobody out, some off the jetties at the resort and some in the middle of this gorgeous cove...

Small, but clean and bigger waves on this reef came through...

Reefbreak off the jetty...

So I also call BS of Strava with the elevation of the bridges I ran previously, and decided to give it another go, but with pictures:

...Looking at the inbound, from the outbound...

So there you go.  My first tropical running vacation thing...not shirking (Seth!), by any means, and really needing my New England weather to train in, because that stuff is brutal!  Props to those who run regularly in that heat, I'm spent...and looking to escape to the woods tomorrow for some trail time...

Friday, 4-19 - 0 - Getting the house back in order...

Saturday, 4-20 - 8 Miles (Trail, some Road) - Rainy run in the Woody Hill Preserve with Gazelle, FiveK and Muddy.  We ALMOST had Mike B. talked into joining us (at least I think we did), but he would have been completely miserable out there.  I, on the other hand,  thought it was awesome...pulled up at 7 in the pouring rain, and after a short run up the road we ducked into Woody Hill.  Great spot that I haven't really explored, and it was good to have a guide, as most of the trails aren't marked.  Got totally soaked, muddy and bloodied up on some briars too!  Good times out there this morning...

This is what a good trail run should look like...

Sunday, 4-21 - 0 Miles - Lots of house-type stuff to be done today, including (dammit) routine maintenance on the John Deere, and cleaning out the garage.  As I was dumb enough to sign up for a triathlon, and have no real training to speak of (well, aside from the running), I figured it was high time to get the bike out of the depths, clean it up and do some maintenance on that as well...and it looks pretty good!  Got rid of the beach cruiser handlebars, and some of the extra crap that was on it.  Only the front brake is messed up, has a broken brackety clip tension thingy that'll need fixin'...either way, here's a shot of the bike:

Took it for a short cruise in the neighborhood, and it feels pretty damn smooth...

TARC Countdown...Weekly log 4-8 to 4-14

Monday, 4-8 - 3-ish Miles (Trail Hike) - Bushwacking and trail mapping/searching in Pachaug State Forest. Not technically a run, but a good workout nonetheless.  Met with the local Conservation Commission, who wanted me to help them find the borders of a piece of property they'd acquired, which happened to border Pachaug State Forest and was right next to the Narragansett Trail.  We hiked up the trail, then cut across to the State Forest property border, found some old wagon trails from 150-200 years ago (read: very cool), and made it to their piece of land.  The Commish dudes are also Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center employees, so they pointed out some things along the way I wouldn't have otherwise seen.  On the way out, we came across a really old section of re-routed Narragansett Trail, complete with historic, faded blazes, but still pretty clear and we used that to make our way out to the road.  Incredible what lies just off the path, though, like the large field of lilies coming up next to a stream, nowhere near anything and way off the trail...I'm going back when they bloom to take pictures, 'cause when do you ever see that???  Great day in the woods, and the best weather day in 6 months!

Quiet morning at Wyassup Lake

Tuesday, 4-9 - 9 Miles (Road) - Streets of Pawcatuck/Westerly, waiting for an oil change on the wife's car. Beautiful day, wow...sunny and breezy and 70+ degrees?  I'll take it!  Might even try to hit Grills this afternoon for a bit...

P.M. - 1.6 Miles (Trail) - Ashaway side of Grills Preserve.  Short window of opportunity = short exploratory run on this side of the Pawcatuck River.  Can't wait for the bridge to be dropped in, that'll make quite the trail system...however, lots of trees down on this side across the trails...Jeff, get your chainsaw!!!

Wednesday, 4-10 - 2.5 Miles (Trail) - Short out/backs at Green Falls...another short window of opportunity presented itself, and I took it.  Drove the 10 minutes or so to the Green Falls campground.  Those of you in the know, know that this spot is unique.  Here you have the convergence of three awesome Blue-blazed trails:  the Nehantic starts here, the Pachaug ends here...

...and the Narragansett passes through on its way into Rhode Island.  There's also a blazed loop around the lake, and the possibilities are endless.  Some smooth spots, but mostly technical, hilly and rocky single-track, several stream crossings and this natural rock chute thing, which I've never seen before:

Go in, and take a left...

...but it gets narrow!

Thursday and Friday, 4-11 and 4-12 - 0 Miles - Getting ready for family vacation!  Left Friday a.m. early for Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas...

Saturday, 4-13 - 3+ Miles (Resort Paths) - Atlantis resort paths, stairs, stuff!  Damn, it's hot down here!!!

Sunday, 4-14 - 2 Miles (Road) - Hot streets of Nassau...We came in on this bridge to Paradise Island, and I thought "Yup, have to run those..." There's an inbound and outbound bridge, and apparently my depth perception sucks, because they sure as Hell seemed higher than Strava gave me credit for...planning on running them again and taking pictures from the top...

...but whatever!  I'm in the Bahamas!

32nd Annual Clamdigger Road Race

Sunday, 4-7 - 5.5 Miles (Road/Trail) - 32nd Annual Clamdigger Road Race + extra stuff.  Loaded up the truck with supplies early, and headed down to Avondale to get set up.  With 128 pre-registered, and great conditions expected at racetime, I was thinking we might hit 200 entrants?  Mike B. and Muddy were already there, and both admitted they're driving their families crazy since their injuries...my sympathies...

Once 10 a.m. hit, the trickle of entrants became a flood, and I lost track of time as I was in "pre-reg. mode" at the table until Mike walked by and said "Do you know what time it is???"  Ummm...10:50, crap!  And I'd been sipping on a coffee for the last hour and a half, so the dilemna:  Hit the extra long line at the porta-potties, or get a quick warmup in and suffer the race with a full bladder.  Yup.  Skip the warmup run, and got to the start line at 10:58?

The only time before the race I could snap a pic...great turnout!!!

Gun goes off and I get off to a decent start and felt pretty good, although without the warmup I was breathing pretty hard pretty quick.  Settled into a good pace and PR'd my 1 mile time, awesome!  I didn't feel 100% though...got heckled by Mike B. who was flagging at the first major turn...and my WTAC crew was leading the top 5-6 spots at the 2-mile mark?  FiveK comfortably leading, with Jeff a short ways behind, followed by Riyan L., Mark W. and so on...great showing!

I came across at 22:26 officially, in 29th place...My splits were pretty even, and I beat my time on the same course from last Fall, but came across the line with my 2nd fastest 5K showing?  Not quite the goal, but not bad!

The chowder provided by C.C. O'Brien's was supremely, incredibly good...needed to be said!

After a short trail-to-road cooldown with FiveK, we got back just in time for awards.  Tom was the winner with a time of 16:49, and received a plaque and a four-pack of Grey Sail Porter and etched glass (I love beer awards!).  Thanks for hooking me up with one of the porters!  Almost everyone stuck around for the awards, which was cool, then we did a quick cleanup and got outta there.  Big success!!!

I was in charge of trash detail, and drove straight to the transfer station, which of course was closed, so on the way back to the house I decided to "treat myself" to a short but hilly trail run on Cossaduck Hill, and snagged another course record in the process, cool stuff:

Short mileage tomorrow, then shooting to do a long run Tuesday...Get a big mileage week in, then dial it back until the TARC.

Clamdigger Week! 4-1 to 4-7

So here we go!  The week of the 32nd Annual Clamdigger Road Race, which has received great sponsorship, good publicity, and is looking to come together quite nicely.  I'm talking it up as much as possible, as it's for a great cause (proceeds to benefit the restoration of Westerly Town Beach) and hoping for good weather and a PR...my time on this course at the Westerly Land Trust 5K was 22:40?

http://www.westerlytrackclub.org/clamdigger.html

Monday, 4-1 - 0 - Karate class in the morning, and a running day off...

Tuesday, 4-2 - 0 - Zero day two, first double "0" in over a month?  I think this is going to be a blessing though, as any lingering soreness I may have had is totally gone.  Got lots done today, and ready to rock the rest of the week:  helping at the WMS track team meet, getting prep done for the Clamdigger on Friday, and squeezing in a long run tomorrow possibly?  Looks like better weather ahead, and I'm stoked to get at it...

Wednesday, 4-3 - 11+ Miles (Road) - Wyassup Lake loop.  At one point I was going to title this run after the Bob Seger song "Against the Wind," since it's gusting to 30+ out there today, but once I finished the Wyassup Lake stretch I had a totally different name for it...

Thursday, 4-4 - 0 - With promise of 60-degree weather next week, I drove up to Middletown to CFPA headquarters to pick up some trail maintenance supplies.  Met with Clare, who showed me the tool shed and how they check things out.  Grabbed a couple quarts of blue paint for the blazes, and I'll be out there next week at some point to clear the trails and update the blazes...

Friday, 4-5 - 3.5 Miles (Trail) - The Pequot Woods Public area, which they'd apparently like you to not kill, remove, or destroy...

Love the sign...

Perfect day for trails

This place is a 140-acre preserve right off I-95 in Mystic, and owned by the Town of Groton.  Very well blazed but in need of some maintenance.  Long swampy section of trail slowed me way down and I got bloodied up in some briars trying to get around it, but overall a pretty cool spot.  A small lake there, some minor hills, and I was able to get 3 1/2 miles out of the trails I did.  Running late to meet Steve and Muddy for race day supplies, I missed a couple of spurs off the main trail, but I hit most all of it:

Saturday, 4-6 - 0 - Oddly, this is turning out to be the lowest mileage week for me in several months???  And not by design?

Sunday, 4-7 - 5.5 Miles (Road/Trail) - 32nd Clamdigger Road Race, see separate writeup!
