Christmas Week! Week of 12-23 to 12-29

Monday-Wednesday - 0 Miles - Well, between getting some last-minute shopping done during the day Monday, an all-day traditional Italian Christmas Eve dinner on Tuesday, and a promise to not do any running on Wednesday, I sat on a big fat ZERO for the first three days of the week.  I was able to throw down some scratch for a few races this coming year, schedule forthcoming.  Going to be a different schedule from last year, but not drastically.  Fewer races, though (didn't I say that last year???)  I will need to up the miles after this holiday nonsense is settled out...

Thursday, 12-26 - 2.3 Miles (Roads) - Short run from the house.  Had to get out of the house, and kept getting thwarted at every turn...but I was able to get in a short progression run - the first part just sort of easy to get my blood pumping, then a gradual increase in speed/effort over the course of the run.  Felt pretty good, and after three days of eating/drinking way too much, I'm ready to start getting some miles in...

Friday, 12-27 - 6 Miles (Road) - Local loop + small trail loop.  Was able to get a longer run in today, and while passing the Hangman Hill Preserve, noticed that they'd put up some trail markers.  Took a short spin through the preserve, but it's a very small piece of land, and the trail basically goes up a hill, loops around and back down.  Nice way to break up a road run, though!  Nice day, too.

Saturday, 12-28 - 0 Miles - Yikes!  Low mileage week, but a lot of quality time with the girls, it's all good!

Sunday, 12-29 - 4.3 Miles (Trails) - Riverwood Preserve, Hopkinton RI.  I jumped at the chance when Jeff texted me about doing a run in Riverwood Preserve.  It's the only Westerly Land Trust property I hadn't gotten around to checking out, and based on his previous blog posts, I knew there were some good hills there.  Great run with Jeff, Matthew, and Matthew's friend John.  Cool smooth single track on the perimeter of the property, and the "Meat and Potatoes" trails on the interior are very hilly and technical.  Again, one of those places where you wouldn't think you were in southern Rhode Island.  I maxed out my heart rate on one of the hills at 198 bpm...interesting stat!  As it was raining, everything was slippery and the moss was pretty treacherous, but we all emerged relatively unscathed.  Another gem 10 minutes from the house, a great mix of technical/non-technical trail, and a good day to get soaked!
