Monday, 4-8 - 3-ish Miles (Trail Hike) - Bushwacking and trail mapping/searching in Pachaug State Forest. Not technically a run, but a good workout nonetheless. Met with the local Conservation Commission, who wanted me to help them find the borders of a piece of property they'd acquired, which happened to border Pachaug State Forest and was right next to the Narragansett Trail. We hiked up the trail, then cut across to the State Forest property border, found some old wagon trails from 150-200 years ago (read: very cool), and made it to their piece of land. The Commish dudes are also Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center employees, so they pointed out some things along the way I wouldn't have otherwise seen. On the way out, we came across a really old section of re-routed Narragansett Trail, complete with historic, faded blazes, but still pretty clear and we used that to make our way out to the road. Incredible what lies just off the path, though, like the large field of lilies coming up next to a stream, nowhere near anything and way off the trail...I'm going back when they bloom to take pictures, 'cause when do you ever see that??? Great day in the woods, and the best weather day in 6 months!
Quiet morning at Wyassup Lake
Tuesday, 4-9 - 9 Miles (Road) - Streets of Pawcatuck/Westerly, waiting for an oil change on the wife's car. Beautiful day, wow...sunny and breezy and 70+ degrees? I'll take it! Might even try to hit Grills this afternoon for a bit...
P.M. - 1.6 Miles (Trail) - Ashaway side of Grills Preserve. Short window of opportunity = short exploratory run on this side of the Pawcatuck River. Can't wait for the bridge to be dropped in, that'll make quite the trail system...however, lots of trees down on this side across the trails...Jeff, get your chainsaw!!!
Wednesday, 4-10 - 2.5 Miles (Trail) - Short out/backs at Green Falls...another short window of opportunity presented itself, and I took it. Drove the 10 minutes or so to the Green Falls campground. Those of you in the know, know that this spot is unique. Here you have the convergence of three awesome Blue-blazed trails: the Nehantic starts here, the Pachaug ends here...
...and the Narragansett passes through on its way into Rhode Island. There's also a blazed loop around the lake, and the possibilities are endless. Some smooth spots, but mostly technical, hilly and rocky single-track, several stream crossings and this natural rock chute thing, which I've never seen before:
Go in, and take a left...
...but it gets narrow!
Thursday and Friday, 4-11 and 4-12 - 0 Miles - Getting ready for family vacation! Left Friday a.m. early for Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas...
Saturday, 4-13 - 3+ Miles (Resort Paths) - Atlantis resort paths, stairs, stuff! Damn, it's hot down here!!!
Sunday, 4-14 - 2 Miles (Road) - Hot streets of Nassau...We came in on this bridge to Paradise Island, and I thought "Yup, have to run those..." There's an inbound and outbound bridge, and apparently my depth perception sucks, because they sure as Hell seemed higher than Strava gave me credit for...planning on running them again and taking pictures from the top...
...but whatever! I'm in the Bahamas!
